I’m happy to bring you all another San Diego gem, this time from Mike Hess Brewing Co.
This dark red beauty has clean molasses malts and a touch of sweetness and white, fluffy lacing. Its juicy ester flavors are varied, featuring stone fruits and maybe berries? To me the medium hop bitterness has a floral or green character and reminds me of noble hops. This is all rounded out by rich toasty and nutty flavors and the smooth creaminess from which the style takes its name.
I’m very pleased to have tried this one because my first Mike Hess brew was a rye IPA and I’m not terribly fond of rye brews.
